Not That Duke

Eloisa James

3.64 AVERAGE

A temptation with an endearing heart and a frustrating romance. Not that Duke is classic Eloisa James. A heroine whose courageous enough to stand her ground. A hero that shows heart. A love story that gets under your skin. I love a good enemies to lovers romance. From tempestuous attraction to irresistible heartache, Stella and Silvester deliver on all fronts.

I'm a fan of E.J., however, this book didn't quite do it for me. A common E.J. romance feature is the male lead courting or thinking he's in love with another woman. I love healthy competition and jealousy and maybe even a potential suitor for the female lead. But for the hero to think he's going to marry someone else for 70% of the book? Pass.

The love interest was kind of a jerk and the iffy consent was not great.

Literally the only saving grace in this book is Eloisa James' prose...

I don't think I can honestly pinpoint a single scene in this book that I loved

An enemies to lovers trope that works well. The main character is the type that is beautiful but overlooked due to not being beautiful to her era’s standards. There are many romantic moments that aren’t overdone and keep the fire alive for the reader, with a decent subplot. It’s an easy romance read and a new favorite author for me.
