I didn't read The Reluctant Countess and from what I gather I think I would've enjoyed this more if I did, but its supposed to be a standalone. I think the banter between Stella and Silvester was fun. Not sure I like Silvester pining for someone else almost first half of the book. I also love this cover even though it doesn't match the character. Just not my favorite.

Lady Stella has had a crush on Silvester Parnell, Duke of Huntington, for ages but he likes Yasmine, the diamond of the season. Stella and Silvester are friends but nothing more. Yasmine eventually picks Giles over Silvester and he decides to wed Stella. Once Married Stella still isn’t sure of her place in Silvester’s heart and he must prove his love.
I really really did not enjoy the previous book in this series so I was hoping we had left a lot of the characters from that book behind, but alas, the first have of this one runs simultaneous to the previous book and is essentially the events from different perspectives. Once the character of Giles and Lydia were reintroduced in this book, the story came to a grinding halt for me and it took all my effort to force myself to finish the book. I really liked Stella and was very happy to finally have an actual wall flower in a series about wall flowers. I did not care for Silvester. He was the embodiment of the phrase too little too late. I wanted so much more for Stella. I really hope this is the last book in this series because a new set of characters is desperately needed.

As a historical romance this one is a historical but it lacked in the romace.
The first half of the book the hero is actively courting an other woman, who he says he also loves. The second half and after the ow is married he remembers our heroine and all of the sudden she is the one he always wanted. Are you kidding me?
It was very disappointing as a total.

I positively love Silvester and Stella. I love a well-written flirtation and my stars, this was exquisite.

Just a really average historical romance. I feel like I’ve read this story a lot and it didn’t really do anything to shock me or make me like it more than average. This is another one that will soon be forgotten.

3.5 ⭐️ it had me in the first half but kind of lost me in the second. The characters were SO likable but there was some upsetting dynamics with Sylvester that make me feel icky. Overall ok.
