So beautiful, intelligent, and brutally honest. A masterpiece on the nature of love, belief, relationships over time, and a thoughtful critique and discussion of modern wellness culture.

I looved chapter 33. Felt like fencing conmentary, to finally be a fly on the wall.

All just fits so nicely. A book to come back to over the years and find new meaning from each time.

The narrator does an exceptional job with tension and pushing. Delectably uncomfortable.

2.5 okay I would recommend this to people bc I feel like I need to have dialogue about it. First of all, this book was like reading research papers interspersed with a narrative about a couple who are questioning their 20 year long partnership. Other reviewers said it could have been about 200 pages shorter and I fully agree. This author beat some horses until they were dead and then wrote five more pages for good measure about the most mundane things. I realize that was sort of the point but it really washed out what was a very compelling narrative about the two main characters. The book didn’t actually get good until about 75% of the way in. Besides the verbosity, the most frustrating thing about this book was that the couple wasn’t vulnerable with each other about the single biggest traumas in their lives and also didn’t approach each other with curiosity to get to the heart of this.
