I loved the characters and how much they became a part of one another. I felt the story could have gone a lot deeper into their lives and how they became entwined. It has a lot of potential, just didn't hit the mark for me

Let me just say, that I love Hendrix. Now, in saying that, he is literally the only reason I finished this book. The storyline itself didn't appeal to me in the way that I thought it would. Sometimes I felt like I was reading a pirate story set in the present day, and other times I felt like I was reading one from 200 years ago. It goes from them mocking pirate banter to saying "Aye matey" and stuff like that in the same instance.

If I didn't have a ridiculous compulsion and HENDRIX, I would have DNF'd it. The appeal was non-existent for me.

I loved this novel! We see a whole lot of angst and tension between the characters before they finally snap. The plot is written wonderfully and there is also action added into the storyline.

I wanted to love this book. It sounded like it was right up my alley! A modern day antihero pirate. A captor/captive enemies to lovers intensely emotional romance. The premise definitely intrigued me, but sadly it didn’t deliver.

It should be noted in terms of plot that there are coincidences so fantastical that the chances of this story actually ever really happening in real life are about one hundred billion trillion to one. Which would be fine if we were talking paranormal, supernatural, urban fantasy…but we’re not.

But I was prepared to overlook the complete unlikelihood of the plot in favor of strong character development and relationship building…but that did not come to pass either. When I think enemies to lovers I imagine loathing being tempered by short exchanges where each sees the other in a different light, then a grudging respect forms, then shockingly the couple find themselves enjoying each other’s company, feelings are engaged and often fought – there’s lots of angst and intensity of emotion, until finally a connection is forged. Here we went from almost immediate lust to pretty much insta-love on both sides, and I will be damned if I can figure out why in either case.

I liked Hendrix and wished there was more back story on his character. I have no problem with an antihero killing – for a logical reason, but I did find Hendrix’s murder of 6 innocent men and trying to make the heroine feel responsible for it to represent a significant lapse in judgment. (Especially when all he had to do was yell “Hey Indi, I’m not selling you, you’re mine! I’m keeping you”. Problem solved. But no…)

I really didn’t care for Indi and I have a hard time really getting on board with a romance when I don’t like the heroine. I found her to be immature in both her speech and behavior. When she tells her friend Eric to not “make her regret her decision to save him” I really wanted to tell her to get over herself. Hendrix made a deal with her that he would let Eric go unharmed if Indi promised to not try to hurt herself (she had an opportunity to kill herself and failed to take it, thus clearly she won’t) and not to try to escape (from a boat in the middle of shark infested waters where she’s out numbered 100 to 1) and in return she gets free reign of the ship. This gets turned into her sacrificing herself for her friend because she is going to “let” Hendrix sell her. Apparently she is overlooking the fact that he could have simply trussed her up, stuck an apple in her mouth and left her in his cabin like a Christmas pig, killed Eric AND still sold her and there was diddly she could do about it. Meanwhile Eric is sleeping on the floor in a cramped cell in the hold and she’s traipsing about the entire ship at her leisure – but she’s “saving” him.

I will say the sex scenes were very well done. Hendrix is hot and I get what Indi sees in him in that regard, although again I would have preferred more relationship building and greater maturity on Indi’s part.

Overall it was a quick read, it was different and it held my interest. I just wish I didn’t have so much to complain about. The ending sets up a sequel and I would read it out of curiosity if it ever drops to $.99.

So be tryin to write me review in Pirate!
Shiver me timbers. I tell ye this be a grand, funny book. 5 Skulls for the lass Bella Jewel
The bonnie lass Indigo Waters tis on the run from her scalleywag ex Kane who be a beaten his lass. She runs off as she is being threatened. Me fellow landlubbers tis a hidden gem this book. Indigo and her matey Eric are off to England by yacht. They are nearly taken to Davy Jones's Locker but are a rescued a just in time by the life of me real pirates where Indi meets Cap'n Hendrix (aye and what a cap'n he be)

Work like a captain - play like a pirate

Henrix has a debt to pay and is wantin to sell the bonnie lass. Indi be pure fire and feisty she be not going down without a fight. First Eric and Indi be locked away but she has the full attention of the cap'n. Tis be a no attraction between the two but time does fly and they be getting to know one aother. Tis the banter that got me going.

"Stop fucking squirming like that," he orders and I stop as soon as I realize why he's asked me to. He's hard. My God, he's hard. "You're...You're..." I'm fucking hard cause you're squirming against me. I'm a man now get over it." I gape up at him, and he gives me a determined glare before tugging one of his hands, and freeing it. He reaches down and untangles my hand, and I shift to try and move my feet. "Stop fuckin moving your tangling us again" "Well I can't just lay here and not move" I protest. "Why don't you let me get up and figure myself out" "If I leave it up to you, I'll come back next week to a bag of rotting bones" "That's mean" I snap. "Stop fucking squirming he hisses.

For tis the action and adventure and Indi and Eric escapin that Hendrix see that: I'm your cap'n and yer me lassie. For real that will be

After a reading this gem I would say that Yo' Ho' - a pirates life for me
Ahoy, me heartie Ain't soon enough for the grand adventure of the Dimitri and Jess for it will be a sight to see.

OMG!! Bella, I think I love your pirates more than I love your bikers - and I wouldn't have thought that possible!! Such a great story - read it in the one sitting!! Didn't want to put it down! So happy that we only have to wait a fairly short time for number two!! Really loved Hendrix - so I am looking forward to seeing what his step-son can dish out!!

Moral of the story: If you're scared you're going to jail or have no other prospects, you can run away and be a pirate. Why didn't anybody tell me?! So, the story was entertaining enough, but there's too much I didn't care for to give it full on praise. See, this is why I don't read that dark bullllshiitte. I just know Hendrix's behavior doesn't hold a candle to the other abusive guys in the those 'fall for my captor' type books, but I can't easily forgive and forget. Even if it is make believe. I really want to rant, but I can't do that without lighting up this review with spoilers. Gotta give it up to Bella because her discription of the pirate who will be the focal point of the next book actually has me thinking about reading the damn thing.
