This is thought provoking, introspective, and beautifully written. I truly enjoyed reading it. It would be great for book club discussions.

Very well written and at times quite thought-provoking and interesting. I had forgotten that I had read Sarah’s NY Mag piece about J until we got to that part of the book, and it was just as captivating in this form as the article had been. Unfortunately I was much less captivated by the high school philosophy teacher parts, so the first third and final third of the book really dragged for me. I think it’s an interesting philosophical discussion and I’m impressed by how she tied these two personal events together but ultimately it was just a tad too slow for me.

It’s hard for me to be objective here, because I had Sarah Viren as a professor my spring semester of my first year of graduate school, but I thought this book was incredible ❤️ So raw, real, and authentic, and really reflective about what is truth and what is a lie. Thank you for writing this Sarah!! You’re amazing!!

DID NOT FINISH

Just read The Elissa’s and this was just too much along a somewhat similar line (girls coming of age) and I felt overloaded. May try again later.
