I wish, not for the first time, that Goodreads allowed half stars. 3.5

I had no idea she was never actually convicted of killing her parents! I grew up knowing the rhyme, but not the most important piece of the story- she was found not guilty. It was an interesting and well written account of the crime and trial. And eye opening on several levels. #knowyourfacts

This was definitely a groovy true crime story that remains unsolved. I really walked out of it not completely sold on whether Lizzie did the deed or not. The author admits that the facts and information were doled out equally in the book, not to try and sell a certain viewpoint and it still ended up somewhere in the middle. There remains a few possibilities and who knows the likelihood of each to play out. It would be great if this ever gets solved in my lifetime.

I confess I knew almost nothing about the Borden murders beyond the rhyme found at the beginning of the book. So I enjoyed learning more details. The writing felt a little flat sometimes. I think the story could have been more engaging. But a decent tale.

yes I read every page and yes I paid attention... but I still think she did it

Not for those who like a complete wrap up to their book endings. Not the book’s fault, there just apparently aren’t all that many actual facts about the Lizzie Borden case. An incomplete mystery just doesn’t make for a satisfying book ending.
