I loved that the characters had complex and unique back stories, I was questioning everyone and their motives the whole time I was reading. The world is expansive but it makes sense! The place this really shows up in the writing, everyone has their own voice!! All six of them! From Aeirie sounding childish and silly to Royo who reads as a more blunt character. Everyone was so unique!! I literally can’t wait to read book 2!!!

This 6-person-POV (yes, you read that right--SIX) high fantasy novel is extremely entertaining and had me continuously unsure of who I could trust.
Five of the most dangerous and experienced thieves, assassins, and liars have been mysteriously brought together to kill King Joon--the merciless and famously immortal king of Yusan. These five untrustworthy people have to come together and somehow earn each other's trust in order to succeed in their mission. Can they set aside their personal ambitions and complete their task? Or will they end up betraying each other in the end?
I listened to Five Broken Blades on audio and loved the experience of hearing a full cast narrate all 6 POVs. I found this novel to be quite enjoyable and even found myself becoming so attached to the characters I would be frustrated when they would hide information from each other or wouldn't admit their feelings for one another. The story is chock full of mystery, intrigue, and romance ensuring almost any kind of reader will be entertained.
I do wish there was more world building as I was confused by the religious/god system, but I have high hopes that the author will dig deeper into it in the next book. Though the ending had a great plot twist and tied up the plot just enough, I'm still ready to fall back into the world and already have book 2 preordered.
Fans of fast-paced fantasy romance novels will absolutely eat Five Broken Blades up.

Most of these shortfalls are sorted out as the story unfolds; however, the tween-type dialogue and relationships don’t change too much. Overall it was a pretty enjoyable book, I think I will be continuing this series.

The plot twist was pretty good and took me relatively by surprise. Unfortunately, the twist is also why this is more than one book.
I think it's probably just not for me because I can't say it was bad overall, but I felt disappointed with the whole experience anyway.
