I’m not sure what the author hoped to achieve with this book. It dealt with an abusive relationship (and grooming) but didn’t really seem all too concerned with that. It felt wanky, and was poorly written. Don’t bother reading it - it’s awful

Die Sprache war nicht einfach und es war alles in indirekter Rede, so dass ich als nicht deutscher Muttersprachler mehr als eine Schwierigkeit hatte, aber was mich vor allem quälte, war eindeutig die Geschichte dieser Besessenheit zwischen Hans und Katharina. Paradoxerweise fand ich sie sehr schön und real, gerade weil sie nicht meine eigene war, und es war sehr beängstigend zu denken, dass Menschen solche Situationen akzeptieren könnten.
Erpenbeck bleibt meiner Meinung nach eine großartige Autorin, aber vielleicht ist dies nicht ihr bestes Buch.
Il linguaggio non era facile e tutto in discorso indiretto, quindi non essendo madre lingua tedesca ho avuto piú di una difficoltà, ma soprattutto quello che mi ha messo l'angoscia é stata chiaramente la storia di questa ossessione tra Hans e Katharina. Paradossalmente l'ho trovata molto bella e reale, proprio perché non era la mia e mi metteva molta paura pensare che la gente possa accettare delle situazioni di questo tipo. La Erpenbeck resta una grande scrittrice secondo me, ma forse non é questo il suo libro migliore.
