I enjoyed the first half of the book very much and the romping through berlin, now my home city, very pleasing. But when Hans turns into a monster after Katherina's betrayal (though he has always betrayed his wife ingrid) i couldn't really stay with it. It was hard to know why she would put up with this cantankerous, old unforgiving, hypocritical bastard. But the passages on collapse of the gdr are interesting though could do with some punctuation.

ich fand es furchtbar langweilig und die sich immer wiederholenden sätze, die zwar schon sinn ergeben weil 2 personen die selben situationen erleben, fand ich extrem nervig. ich hab echt keinen sinn mehr darin gesehen, das buch weiter zu lesen.

Another pretentious literary fiction book that leaves you wondering what the heck you’re reading every page or so. The age gap was disturbingly large. Hans character was so toxic and manipulative and overall an oath to why women ought to never date anyone any older than 5 years from themselves.
