4 stars only because I need more! This was a novella and it could've been a great novel. Can't wait for more from this author.

Such a deeply disappointing little novelette. A cynical reader might suspect Amor of following the dancing dollar bill signs down the garden path, but I prefer to believe that he just had a few little story snippets that didn't make it into the book and didn't know what else to do with them. Meh.

Although I utterly love Amor Towles and was keen to continue Eve’s adventures on the west coast, this left me wanting. Eve, who was once a vivid character in Rules of Civility, became no more than a cypher for others. The great shame of this is that Towles writes great female characters who feel fleshed out and real. Why not here, I wonder? This is not so much a continuation of Rules, but rather a side track that doesn’t capitalise on its promise. Only read it for Towles turn of phrase, which doesn’t disappoint.

While I appreciated this little extension of the Rules of Civility story, it felt more like an amuse-bouche--a not something that should be left standing alone. And the trailed-off ending elicited a frown. Still, Evey, I'm waiting to see where you end up.

Wow that just ended out of nowhere.

It was so short, I just want more!

I thought the premise of a novella surrounding Eve's adventures in Hollywood was clever, the execution was well done. The only thing I could have wished was to see more of her and her future, like we saw Katey's in Rules of Civility. Definitely worth the time if you've read Rules of Civility.
