I never thought I would like an essay analysing the confluence of Japanese and Western aesthetics so much. Very thought provoking in terms of highlighting the differences in lighting of setting in many different contexts. I just wished he expanded more on the cinematic side since that is one of my hobbies.

Я думаю, що я перечитаю це есе ще раз. Це було схоже на медитацію - коли трошки прочитав, а потім треба переосмислити, що саме автор хотів сказати прямо і між рядків, зрозуміти, провести паралелі до свого життя і своєї культури. Тут багато чого згадується- побут вдома, архітектура, краса, мистецтво і це все майже кричить інакшістю, у всьому. Автор наводить багато прикладів, як інші культури вплинули на японську культуру і зазвичай підсумовує тим, що якби Японія розвовалася самостійно, то набато всього б винайдено по-іншому. Це дуже сумно, насправді, бо в світі глобалізаціі ми втрачаємо цінність різноманіття.

So there’s a deeper meaning as to why I refuse to turn my ceiling light on and only use yellow-lit lamps. Excited to make observations in Japan about the style of the rooms that he’s describing. Also definitely a product of its time - do not read if you’re a proud westerner who gets offended easily
