Not gonna lie, I cried when I heard them say Hilfred. I was not prepared for his backstory. 😭 But I'm SO happy to see more of these characters! Arista, Gwen, THE PICKERINGS 😭 And we get to see Royce all flustered over Gwen! Ugh I love it!

I think it's really interesting in this book to get to see
the church's mechanizations so far before the original trilogy. Also if Royce wasn't so... well, Royce, we might have avoided that whole original story
. I liked Hilfred and Rose's storyline, even though it was depressing. This was a fun, interesting book and I always love spending time with Royce and Hadrian.

I thought this one dragged a bit more than the others I’ve read, particularly in the sections dealing with the royal family, but it did provide some nice background to the other books in the series.

Goddamn I love this series, wasn't sure if it was Simon Exeter or the Bishop until the reveal to be frank, which is just a testament to the quality of the story.

I always feel satisfied after reading a Riyria book and this one was not an exception. A fast and interesting plot into the background of a lot of things happening in the revelations series made this read into such a fun one. Not one of the deepest reads and not the best Riyria book, but you're always in for a enjoyable time with Royce and Hadrian.
