I think the Archon planned Caldris’ death, with the poison he claims to have also given Locke and Jean, to scare them into returning for the “antidote.” I don’t think they’re poisoned at all. I don’t have any further supporting information to back this up, I just cannot think of another reason for the Archon to kill Caldris, unless the author wanted to prove to us that ships REALLY NEED women and cats. Glad Regal made a come back.
Also where the fuck is Sabbatha? I need a back story on her and Locke so I can care about it.

Wow. Wow. Wow. These books are fantastic. How do you write a genius character with such wit and brain, and yet have him fail over and over and over and it still fits ? It’s incredible. Probably the only flaw I could see anything having is all the humor of the book is the same type, but that’s just the writer coming through and I love the humor. The plots are so complex and interwoven, and yet it’s not that hard to keep them straight (just don’t put the book down for too long, lest ye forget). I love the looming threat of the bondsmage and can’t wait to see it all play out.

not consistently good, but tons of great stretches. was not convinced i'd enjoy the nautical sections, but i was won over from time to time.
4.5 stars - this is a very well written series, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the character development. Have already started book 3.

PIRATES! Need I say anything more?
Awesome, as was the 1st book. I expected what happens at the end to happen but I was still sad.
Only thing I found less fun was that they really did get used and thrown around by a lot of outside forces, even though part of the plot it was not super enjoyable? Also the endong didn't feel as rewarding as the one in Camorr.
I really liked the many duos of characters, it seems that in Tal Verrar every team always works in twos, even our heroes.
Also I really wish we spent more time in Salon Corbeau, I barely understood what happened there and I really wanted to see retribution and vengeance on the rich there.
