Exciting sequel and second book in the Gentlemen Bastards series. This book follows grown up Locke Lamora and Jean Tannen as they adopt new fake identities and try on schemes in a new city, only to be sent to sea on a thrilling pirate adventure. This book includes a bittersweet romance.

Excellent. The ending felt rushed, but it was a great read. The middle was slower, but that was also the most enjoyable part in my opinion. The journey from inept landsmen to pirate sailors was just fun, and a nice change of pace from their scheming.

On that note, the schemes (or scheme or scheme that developed layers), were convoluted to the point we were left in the dark for some of the means and the end for most of the book. I guess when it’s far fetched, it’s better to dazzle than try and explain.

Still I loved it, was a worthy successor to Lies of Locke Lamora, and I highly recommend.

Even better than the first. These books are a blast and this one has pirates in it!

These books are definitely a must-read series for me now. The structure of the book was a little odd, with a ton of foreshadowing and setup taking up the first 60% or so of the story and the climax being in the last few pages. I wondered to myself as I was nearing the last tenth of the book how on earth all of the many parts of the story were going to be resolved, or were they? A very satisfying ending, but at the same time, you MUST know what happens next. The next book is apparently out in March - I know what I'm reading then!
