I truly felt the authenticity of this book because I have spent some time in the mountains of eastern Kentucky. I love a book that can plop you right into the scenery & make it come to life. This is also the first time I’ve heard of the Packhorse Librarians...a badass group of women delivering books to families in need during the Great Depression! Totally awesome & based on a true story! The Pack Horse Library Program, was a Works Progress Administration project created by Franklin Roosevelt that delivered books to rural Appalachia between 1935 - 1943. Although the story is based on the adventures of Alice (from England), I loved Margery the most! She is the type of woman I admire: strong, determined & courageous at a time when women were really not free to reach their true potential! I loved the bonds that formed between all of the Packhorse librarians (Izzy, Alice, Sophia, Beth, Margery & Mrs. Brady)...they each found strength in supporting one another. I feel like many young women today take for granted their freedoms!

This book is out of my norm (I'm usually a fantasy reader), and I am so glad I gave it a read! Truly a chef's kiss book for me. It was so beautifully written and the characters were so strongly developed that I felt like I actually went on the journey with the Packhorse Librarians. Strong FMCs that are making an impact in their community, heck yes. The only thing that got to me was that the ending really left me wanting more. I felt like the wrap-ups in the last few pages were a bit of a disservice to the relationships that Moyes created between the characters and the reader. Despite that pain point, it was still a 5-star read for me!

A nice light and easy read, and overall just okay book. At first I wasn't sure if I was even going to finish it because the beginning was pretty cheesy, but then I became more interested in where the story was going. There's a somewhat unexpected plot twist near the end that keeps things interesting. I did enjoy the anti capitalist, pro labor and pro union undertones throughout the book. I was hoping the romance aspect of the book would be between Margery and Alice but sadly it was very traditional. Overall an enjoyable book to read while in the bath that is very surface level.
