Took me a while to get into but I really enjoyed it overall!
This took a while to get into--I am reading this aloud to my son and the beginning has a bit of a set up. However, once I started listening to the audiobook for myself, I found myself much more engaged. It helped that I really like the narrator.
I really like the premise of this book, similar to Harry Potter, that there is a "magical" world that coexists unknowingly with the regular world. In this case, it isn't really magic, but instead uncommon objects--or objects infused with a spirit that then imbues unique properties.
I am definitely interested in reading more in the series.

Probably more 3.5 stars; this is enormous fun and has lots of great ideas and a lovely writing style, but it's a debut novel which shows in places, particularly the pacing, which is too fast in some places and too slow in others. I recommend it, though, and I'm definitely up for the rest of the series!
This book had such a fun and unique world! Beautiful illustrations too!
The crooked sixpence is an ok book, it is certainly readable and really picks up when you get to the last third of the story. It has some pacing issues, I found it slow in places, but when it got going it was brilliant. Ivy seemed a tad mature for her age, and wasn't always believable as an 11 year old. The ending was the highlight for me and I wish that the rest of the book had been as good.
However, I still enjoyed it and I loved Scratch who was easily my favourite character and I wish he had been used more throughout the story.

Read- July 2019 for The Book Junkie Trials (The Drowning Deep) and Reading Rush (read an authors first book)
- This was a book that I have wanted to read for such a long time and I don't even know why. I never even knew the plot of the book before I started it but I've just always wanted to read it and now I finally have. I honestly did really enjoy this book (as we all know, a 3 star rating isn't bad) but there was just a few things that felt off to me.
The world building really wasn't great, I found myself getting confused so many times with how the world works. Also the plot was quite confusing and difficult to keep track of at times. However, by the end of the book I felt like I really got to grips with the world and the plot so I'm very excited to jump into the next book because I feel like it will be an easier read.
