So inventive and creative! A thrilling tale with some of the best young characters I've ever read!
I loved the uncommon objects, I loved the wraithmoths, I loved the grim-wolf, I loved scratch! I honestly cannot fault this book except for the fact that I need the next book now!!

I like the silliness of using common objects in adjacent magical ways. Also the holiday market feels kinda sweet/mystical.
I kinda felt like the characters were a bit slow on the up take and things dragged especially in the first 1/2. The main characters were not much fun and we didn’t feel very connected to them.
I doubt I’ll read the next one…. Though I do feel like we would watch a tv version cuz it could be more fun with bits of editing.

Finally a book to stop me from re-reading Harry Potter. Maybe not.
The book is every bit exciting and thrilling and I absolutely love the fact that the protagonist is female. Plus she is my daughter's age so an added incentive.
The only drawback I felt was the first few chapters threw in a lot of 'uncommon' terms and it was a little awkward to get into the story. In comparison, as a Muggle I had no trouble getting sucked into Harry Potter's story from the first line. I did not feel out of place there as JKR did an excellent job of setting up the scene, Jennifer Bell doesn't do that here. We are just thrown headlong into the adventure like Ivy and just like her it takes sometime to get our bearings in this new world.
But once you settle in, the ride is wonderful. Characters are quirky, at times too quirky. I can live with that. Can't wait for my daughter to read this and share her thoughts.
