This is more gripping than the previous book. The portrayal of the ritualistic serial murders was creepy and kept me reading. Interesting to see the themes around faith in religion, madness, mental illness, etc.

This might be the best one yet; I never thought he could surpass Heartstone (yes, I read #5 before #4, don't ask), but this was truly excellent. Absolute genius. Granted it has been 2 or 3 years since I read Heartstone...
Either way, Revelation and Heartstone are currently my favourites. In this series and in general, my favourite books. I can't wait for Lamentation and finally Tombstone, especially now that Revelation blew all my expectations away, I can only expect bigger and better (and they certainly are bigger).

As a work of mystery/detective fiction, this is really excellent. The plot is gripping and original, full of clues and red-herrings, which made me excited to find out who the killer was. The strongest of the Shardlake series up to this point.
