A wonderful series and I always learn about life in the Tudor era. The arc of this book was depressing, not only because of the violent murders, but because we have not advanced much in our religious tolerance. Shardlake remains a bright light.

Each book in the Matthew Shardlake mystery series is better than the one before. I'm tempted to start the next book now but I'll wait. I miss these characters when I finish the book.
This one was fun...an interesting look at blossoming Tudor Puritanism and the divides between the radicals, the former reformers who are in a precarious position as the King backpedals from the radical reform of his youth, and those who yearn for Rome. AND a serial killer who threatens the King's newest love interest and possible sixth wife: widow Catherine Parr.

Probably my favorite of the Shardlake novels so far, I found the mystery here really interesting and Sansom does some decent character work with Shardlake and Barak as well. Absolutely massive, though.
Much stronger than the previous book in the series. Sansom seems to do better when the main bulk of the story takes place in London and its environs. The mystery kept me captivated throughout, and the story was interspersed with fascinating discussions on the views of mental illness during that time of upheaval.
