DNF. A couple gratuitous f-words in the first couple chapters. Combined with the some blatant sex/cheating makes it not the book for me. Seems like a cool premise though.

what i absolutely love about The Atlas Six is that not only do you have the—dare i say—regular fantasy plot (six people are selected to join a secret society in which they will have to compete against each other to access the next stage of their initiation), but that plot is enriched by something deeper, more philosophical and even existential, because the characters essentially hold the fate of the entire world in their hands, and that is bound to lead to both some introspection and some extrospection on their part. Olivie Blake writes that beautifully, and more importantly in a way that doesn’t come off as pretentious. i can only applaud her for it because this isn’t something that every author is capable of doing.
every single character is unique in their own way, none of them are one hundred percent good or one hundred percent bad, which is so much fun to read! i especially enjoyed the fluidity in their relations with each other, both emotionally and physically. it’s something i’ve never seen before in fantasy—and barely in literary fiction—and that makes it so new, so refreshing. you want two characters to get together? no worries! they probably will, because everyone gets with everyone in this book, no matter their gender or their sexuality. it’s terrific, i wish all books were like that.
at any rate, having re-read this book, i am now prepared to read The Atlas Paradox and buzzing with excitement!

This took me so long to read. I almost dnf’d it. It was a very long book and honestly not much happened.
At the start I thought I was gonna absolutely love this book. It had a strong start but then just fell. Nothing really happened? It was all just a game amongst characters but I was expecting like actual challenges. It was a bit jumpy and the pacing felt very off. It felt like 3 days had gone by instead of a whole year. Basically gossip girl but make it ✨ dark academia ✨
