This book was truly excellent. An absolute genius, Chizmar blends himself as the main narrator with a fictionalized true crime story. This was less of a ‘thriller’ to me, and more of an immersive slow burn as death invaded a small town. The ending was perfect, not rushed. Stoked to read the second installment surrounding ‘The Boogeyman’!
Enjoyed the local flavor of the story. Listening to it as an audiobook helped with some of the more personal narrative parts. Very interesting—made me curious about his horror works.

This may have been the best book I read all year. I was hooked from beginning to end. The author is an incredible storyteller!!!
Fantastic. Don’t think I’ve really read anything like it before.
This was a fun mystery that straddles the line between fiction and nonfiction. Because it's based on the authors childhood there is a lot of verisimilitude to the story. It has the feel of Derry, from Stephen King, without the killer clown. Highly recommended to readers of thrillers.
The description is missing girls, but it's missing teenage girls. I can't read about that.
