This book has single handedly made me want to become a reader again and that has to count for something. Thought most of this was solid but a bit strange to read, but the last 60ish pages really leveled up. Dark, weird, and painfully relevant. Very excited to see what Charlie Kaufman does to this story

The concept is really good and interesting but in practice it was not a very captivating read. I also didn't love the ending or the lack of worldbuilding or
the fact that basically unless you were one of the few who magically remember, there was no way out
.

The best thing this book did was showcase how humans often willingly go along with their own demise. Especially when that demise is brought upon them by their own government. We easily forget and adapt. Stuck in an oppressive cycle. I think it was slow and vague as far as the how and why, but I don’t think explaining those things was the author’s aim. She was trying to make a point about the overall human condition, and I think she succeeded in that. I also liked the cold, dark, ominous vibes. Was I always dying to pick it back up? No. Did it take me a while to read? Yes. However, I think it was overall solid.
