When I finished this book, all I could really think was “what the fuck did that mean,” so I had to look for further analysis. What I did find was a very convincing paper about this book using narrative veil ultra-nationalist sentiment which definitely makes sense to me (especially just having finished Misha Glenny’s book on nationalism in the Balkans). I think this book does an ok job at what it sets out to do on the surface, but I think there are other themes lurking here that I can’t really endorse.
