Great read that I would never recommend.

I think the message and the story were all laid out really well. Extremely charming and I read with a smile on my face pretty much the entire book.

The only reason I rated it a two was because of Lucy. Although this little boy was incredibly charming throughout the entire book he was still the anti christ. Of all the monsters that we know about and it had to be the anti christ.

I feel like I might get cancelled for this review, but this book was SOOO ULTRA HYPED, and it was…fine. I didn’t hate it or anything, but I got sort of bored with it. I tried starting it at least 5 times before finally reading and finishing it and while it was certainly cute, I wasn’t blown away. The characters were fun, but kind of annoying at times and It might just be me and my own taste, but it felt less endearing and more just kind of boring…

I see the appeal, I just think I maybe needed less hype. I was expecting this to be a life changing book for me and it was kind of just okay.

Side note: In finishing this book I read a few things about Klune basing the whole idea of the book on the Canadian Sixties Scoop/American Indian boarding schools and while I haven’t looked into it enough to say definitively if that was the inspiration, I do see some of that in this book and that makes me VERY queasy. Taking that traumatic and inhumane treatment of people and turning it into a cute fantasy novel is a major NOPE from me.

Beautiful. Brilliant. Incredible. Heartwarming. I have tears of joy in my eyes as I write this. This was such a wonderful story and deserves every bit of love it has gotten (and will continue to get). So much joy and laughter and love can be found in the pages of this book. If I were given the choice to live any story, this is the one I would pick.

I will be thinking about it for a long time.
