Not my favorite of the Dresden Files graphic novel offerings, but definitely fun to be back in this world.

I'm a hardcore Dresden fan, so maybe I just want more from Dresden Files graphic novels. It's a good little story, but it doesn't add a lot to the mythos and lacks somewhat in villain motivation (also the villain really should have smashed Harry flat). But! I adore seeing Molly work, I love morally-challenged Marcone and Harry in the same place, and I wish I had a Mouse of my very own because I already have Mister and clearly I need the set.

That said, the art is a little lacking here-- there's a heavy reliance on Molly in pants that defy the laws of physics and Gard in a skirt that barely covers her ass (dat axe tho), and there's a striking similarity of the facial features of all of the characters, male and female alike. It's not that it's poorly done, it's that they honestly all look like the same model was used -- one for females and one for males (the exception of course being Šejić's covers, which look like Šejić characters. :D). The overall quality of the work leads me to believe Gómez is capable of rectifying all of that, though it remains to be seen whether he'll be directed to do so.

At any rate, I'm happy to have it, but I'm a fangirl. YMMV.

This mini-Dresden adventure is set after [b:White Night|91475|White Night (The Dresden Files, #9)|Jim Butcher|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1309552288s/91475.jpg|1254936].

A misc bad-guy is sending golems in to Chicago & killing people who are under the protection of mobster Marcone. It's standard fare for Butcher & a nice little addition to the Dresden world. If you already enjoy the longer novels, you'll like this.

My biggest complaint is that Molly is dressed like this for the entire book. In winter.

description

I love the hair & the piercings, but women do actually have internal organs.

While it's a shockingly common way to draw women in comics, being able to see both ass cheeks & boobs is not physically possible (or at least extremely difficult if you aren't a contortionist)
description

Let's stop doing this to women.

I received this through NetGalley.

This was my first encounter with The Dresden Files, even though I've heard all about it from friends. Even though this clearly isn't the first story, there's enough background information that I didn't feel lost while reading it. The art is really well done and the characters are unique and interesting in their own right. I'm definitely motivated to hunt some of the other titles from this series down and give them a perusal. I'm glad I got the chance to read this.

I like these little comic book adventures, I just wish they weren't in-between stories from books that came out years ago. I can't always remember everything that's happened back after/in [b:Proven Guilty|91474|Proven Guilty (The Dresden Files, #8)|Jim Butcher|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1345667469s/91474.jpg|576222].

Not my favorite entry - it took Harry forever to figure out the Golem was a Golem (which, DUH), and I HATED the way Molly is portrayed/drawn. She's probably described that way in the books, but I always pictured her wearing, like, 80% more clothing. Sigh. It was ok - 2 stars.

This graphic novel containing an original Dresden Files story reminded me how much I miss the Dresden Files (... hope the next one's out soon). The Down Town story doesn't try to be too big, it puts some well-loved characters front and centre, and the artwork is amazing. The narration/dialogue style is similar to the novels, but it's also possible for us to get outside Harry's head which doesn't happen in the books. I also don't have the same problems with this one that I did with the last Dresden Files graphic novel I read, because the story scale here is small - another incident in Harry's life - so there's no world-changing consequences revealed here, it's just a good adventure!

I've never read anything by Butcher before - maybe a short story or two, but not that I remember - but I know of his work. You can't be active in the UF fandoms without having heard of The Dresden Files! But I never picked up the books. They didn't feel right for me.
So it was a little out of character for me to pick up this book. I think it was the cover-art that drew me. Turnes out, it was by [a:Stjepan Šejić|617155|Stjepan Šejić|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1367184066p2/617155.jpg], my favorit artist, so no wonder I was drawn to it!
Unfortunatly, the rest of the content didn't live up to my hopes.

Considering I hadn't read anything else in the series, I was a little worried I'd be thrown for a loop, but that wasn't a problem, which the book gets pluss-points for. I liked Molly as a character and would love to see more of her, but Harry and the other characters? And the rest of the story in itself? It didn't do anything for me.
The story was slow, meandering, and kind of boring. I honestly considered DNFing the thing, which is almost unheard of when it comes to graphic novels/comics! And all of Harry's random thinking only made the story slower.

Guess I finally got the confirmation I needed that this series isn't for me

2 Dresden fixes in as many days, first Shadowed Souls and now the comic! This one focuses on a series of murders by a Sorcerer who is using a Golem as his murder weapon. Taking place soon after Molly became his apprentice it features Mister, Mouse, Harry, Molly and Marcone for all the Dresdeny goodness I love from Butcher.
