It’s probably been 20 years since I first read this series, and Daine is as delightful as ever! Tamora Pierce can write the hell out of a young female lead, a great supporting cast, and magic system. I was truly transported to Tortall again while reading this book!

this book is so dear to my heart, TP at her finest. Humor, plot, and a fun new take on Magic in the realm of Tortall make this a great leap into a fun quartet

This is the first book that ever read by Tamora Pierce and I just had such a good time reading and following the adventures of a strong and amazing girl called Daine who could connect with animals. I would love to have such a magical power. It was so fantastic and entertaining to read that I'm finding myself so eager to read the next books of this series. Daine reminded me a bit of Robin Hobb's Fitz which made me like her more.
