In a far flung future wasteland, sixth grader Sho Takamatsu watches as his classmates descend further into barbarism. Will they ever find their way home?
The concluding volume of the Drifting Classroom does not disappoint. Shit continues to hit the fan as the students fall further into despair and savagery. The Lord of the Flies scenario continues.
This volume is the best of the series. Kazuo Umezz's art is top notch at this point and he explores a few more settings while Sho continues the eternal struggle of keeping his classmates on the same page as they're slowly starving to death.
The writing is punchy as well. Some things are left unexplained but things relentlessly plunge toward the ending like a makeshift spear. Speaking of the ending, I'm so glad it wasn't nerfed.
And that's that. I don't want to spoil any of the big plot points.

WHEW BOY, finally finished! What a good ending though! I wasn't sure how it was going to be pulled off but I liked it nonetheless. Kinda wish Umezz had written a short follow up but it's fine where it stops I think. Proud of those crazy kids!

I don't know if I expected the ending to be awesome, but you know what? It was pretty good.
A lot of these stories seem to write themselves into a place where the only options for endings are either "they all died" or something pretty weird and unusual has to happen, which hasn't really been explained up until the end.
But this one did alright!
And honestly, that's good for a long series. I don't need the ending to be the equal of the series anymore. Just not annoying and stupid. Just so long as the end doesn't make the series worse in retrospect, I'm cool.
A lot of us need to learn to separate our feelings about the series ending from the ending itself. I think a lot of TV viewers want an ending to be the peak, the ultimate episode, the best episode, and it NEVER is. EVER. So just accept it, dudes. Accept that the ending just needs to be pretty good, and let's all move on.

What a great ending to the series. More great art. The story does feel a bit more scattered/rushed in this volume but overall I really enjoyed this and would highly recommend the series to any sci-fi lover.

This was written back in the 70s and so aware of the harm we are causing our planet which has only gotten significantly worse since then. This wasteland of a future is coming for us.moi_av's review

Just as zany as the preceding two, but this one has robot titties melting so it has a different flavor of zany we hadn’t seen before. However, if you came to this book wondering, “will it have kids punching each other as much as the last books?” Rest assured, there’s punching galore, and javelins now, and even an emergency appendectomy.
