3.9:
The first half of the book was 👩🏾🍳💋
But the second half made me want to DNF.
Let’s have a steamy little moment. Wrath walks off for literally no reason. Emellia comes to the most wild conclusion with no logical reasoning and is somehow correct. Then that’s going to carry us for the next 30 pages. The same stupid cycle was driving me crazy.
On top of that the two biggest questions are still not answered. Kind of feels like the author was just trying to drag out the plot and shoving in as many unnecessary plot twists that she didn’t account for having in the first book.
Idk. Still love the series and going to read the next book. But the last half of the book was seriously rough

I loved this book so much. The angst, the characters, the romance.. I was here for it, for it all. THIS IS WHAT I WANTED THE ACOTAR SERIES TO BE!
i'm also proud to say i guessed the plot twists somehow. smh always my craziest theories end uo being correct.
RTC.

This was kind of a weird read for me. The first book was lacking some world building and relationship development in my opinion, but the premise was intriguing enough to me to move on to the second book. I hoped for some more insight into the world and the relationship between Emilia and her twin. That didn't really happen though, at least not in a way that was satisfactory to me. The world is very much just "vibes" and to be honest I could not relate to a lot of Emilias decisions as I feel like they lacked the proper foundation. I do like Wrath, even though I felt a bit sad for him in this book which does not scream "ruler of hell" to me - maybe I've read too much high fantasy and dark romance before this series :D
Anyhow I still enjoyed reading it, as it is quite fast paced and keeps you engaged, but I wouldn't say I thought about it after I put it down.
Rereading my review just know, I realize it sounds quite negative - but I feel like I have come to far to stop now, so I will continue on to the third book of the series, which I will probably also like enough to finish it, but not enough to remember a whole lot about it....although I sincerely hope there will be some new additions to the vocabulary that make the use of the word "fornicate" obsolete - not sure if that is supposed to indicate the story takes place in olden times, but my limit in that regard seems to be "bedding" which is already a bit painful to read. Again - blaming that on too much dark and very explicit romance books in my past.
All in all: if you like books with just “vibes”, demons and witches, prophecies and secrets without too much insight into the world, time or rules regarding politics and magic - I would recommend this series to you. Also if you enjoy some tension and slow-burn without a lot of angst, but instead some (slightly) egotistical rage, this might do it for you…. I mean we are talking about Wrath and his intended ;)
If you’re looking for some high fantasy type world building or a lot of spice this might not be the right book for you.

Some pacing issues, but an extremely fun book to read that will stick with me for a long time. I NEED book 3!
+1 star for the plot twists because they were fun to read, but overall it was so tedious i considered dnf-it every 20 pages
Not too crazy than the first book but... wow. I didn't saw that plot twist coming.
