This book was such a tender and vulnerable read. At many points the way I view my body was challenged.  As a fat POC, I found myself emphasising and then sympathising with Gay and how she talked about her body.

If you’re looking for a book that is vulnerable and candid in a way that will make you weep, this is for you!

It’s in the content warnings but big big warning for rape/sexual violence.

It was really powerful hearing Gay’s words in her own voice. The way she writes/speaks about her life experiences draws such clear connections between her trauma, her body, and society’s expectations.

Roxane Gay writes with such openness, vulnerability and strength. She tells this story in a way that is both beautiful and heartbreaking. The content is definitely difficult, which made it a slow read for me despite the shorter length. I feel this is an important read - for everyone.
