Some families are far more complicated than others, and truer words have never been spoken when it comes to the Moorewood family. They have a lot of rules, and to be honest, they were created for a very good reason. The Moorewood family, you see, isn’t quite like most families! They are as likely to steal your watch at a swanky party as offer you a glass of the finest champagne.
When Jillian Moorewood arrives home after over three years away, it’s clear that nothing has changed, despite her warnings that they must. Though her family has been cagey when mentioning Jillian’s whereabouts, everything from Morocco to a mental institution, the truth is far darker and far less pleasant. She has been enjoying a stint in prison, sent there by person or persons unknown for a crime she certainly did not commit.
Of course, every family has their secrets and the Moorehouse cup runneth over when it comes to that. Every single move they make is a con, and Jillian has made it very clear that this is not something that will continue now she has returned from her stay in the big house. She is in charge and she’s going to make sure that they either follow her rules, or they are gone!
The family is made up of a sea of rogues, her uncle Jay is the corrupt and crooked leader who would do anything to see that what he wants goes. His daughters, Anika and Astrid, may be twins but are as different as day and night. Astrid would as soon see her cousin dead as have to live life on the straight and narrow. And then there’s Tenn, he’s the loveliest of the bunch, but the fact that his father has had little influence over his life is probably to thank for that.
Jillian is facing an uphill battle, but with her great aunt Patricia and bodyguard Beck at her side, you would like to think it’s going to be a little bit less complicated and a lot less dangerous, even if at least two people want to see you dead at the bottom of a gully!
This book promised, and delivered, for the most part. I steamed through the story at a rate of knots, desperate to find out if Jillian was going to get her way. There were a few mysteries to be solved such as ‘who loosened the balcony rails’ and ‘who sent Jillian away for three years’? You get the answers and, luckily, they aren’t too convoluted. However, I did feel that there were moments when far too much was happening. The addition of more characters in the form of Gregory, Izzy and Harry (the latter two I felt were unnecessary) just added more confusion when there could have been clarity.
All in all a fun, quick read and definitely something for an afternoon on the beach when you want a quick resolution. It was a bit of fun.

I really enjoyed this book. Made me smile and laugh. Somewhat reminded me of the sadly-now-cancelled TV show "The Company You Keep".

I felt like the romance moved a bit too fast and I would have liked an epilogue but overall it was fun!
