Publishing houses really need to hire people who read the books before advertising them. This is NOT a Knives Out novel or a Ocean's Elveven whater book.

This being said, this was nice. Read it during a family weekend and it was cathartic af. Funny & sweet, definitely recommend if you're looking for something light.
I really enjoyed the dialogue, the banter between the characters was fun and really well written. The verbal sparring between Beck and Jillian was erotic, for real.

I need a spinoff on Beck, Patricia & Jillian.

One day a con man met an heiress, wooed her, married her, had two kids…and kept on conning. Jillian Moorewood is the oldest child from that meet-cute-gone-wrong marriage. The stable one. The sensible and dependable one. The one who protects and fixes. The one who went to prison to save their sorry butts. Now, thirty-nine months later, she’s out and she’s more than a little pissed.

Finally home she finds the scheming clan in full family fleecing mode. They all claim they didn’t really agree to Jillian’s previous go-legit-or-else ultimatum before she went away. They viewed it as a “suggestion” then ignored it. So, it has been business as usual. But Jillian is done with the lies and fakery. She demands the whole messed-up crew clean up its act, and this time she’s not kidding—she has the leverage to make it happen. Problem is, her life is in shambles, but with the help of a great aunt (crooked but loveable), a bodyguard (who is a nice surprise after three years in prison), and a few allies (all working undercover), Jillian starts to put her life back together.

This is not my usual type of book, but I was very intrigued by the synopsis. I am glad that I picked it up. It was fast paced, but not so much so that it was hard to follow. The book kept you guessing, but was still easy to follow. It was a nice break from my usual genres.

Most of the book is told by Jillian. But every handful of chapters you get a chapter told by one of her con artist cousins. The family was very eclectic, and not very likeable. Her ally comes in the form of a bodyguard, and honestly, I loved that for her. It was messed up that she needed a body guard just to live with her own family, but lucky for her, he is handsome, protective, and witty.

I am not really sure what genre this book would be. A tiny mystery, a sprinkle of romance, a lot of family drama? Either way, for something different, this is a fun little pallet cleanser.

Plot or Character Driven: A mix

So...I liked this book but it seems mismarketed. It just wasn't what I expected based on how it is advertised

4/5

After reading the summary of the book, I was getting Knives Out vibes which made me add this to my TBR!

This was such a fun book to listen too. I enjoyed the plot line, the banter, the family drama (especially the great aunt) and the little bit of romance between Jillian and Beck! This was a fast paced book for me and feel it would be a nice palate cleanser between more intense thrillers. It was wholesome and all around fun.

Definitely recommend adding to your TBR!

This was a quick read for me. I read about half of it in the car I couldn't put it down. It was over the top in the best ways. I know its compared to knives out and I don't agree with that.

Its about the Moorewood Family and Jillian whos home from being in prison for the last 39 months for fraud from the FBI. here's the thing her whole dads side of the family are con artists steeling and conning people out of money. Jillian is not she told them they had to go the straight and narrow since she holds her moms inheritance the only problem they don't want to and someone turned her in the the FBI so the fact she's home early is a SHOCK to her family and they aren't happy to see her.

Not only does she come home set on teaching them a lesson but she's also going to turn things upside down. They have no idea what she has planned.

But they wont go down without a fight and they go from putting bugs into her room to listen to trying to get ride of her any way possible. Will she ruin the current scores they have going on? They can't risk that. Jillian has to go to extremes to get a body guard who sees just how crazy the family is.

This was a fun read from all the sarcasm, banter, and family drama with a little romance it was a fast pace read.

Thank you NetGalley for the E-Arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

"Moorewood Family Rule #24:  Sometimes you need to drop the hammer." — Moorewood Family Rules, Helenkay Dimon

Beach binge read.  I passed the time quickly with the Moorewood Family,  a grifting family.   A family that grifts together doesn't always stay together.   Some are willing to take you out, literally, if you interfere with their con.

When Jillian is released from jail, she expects her family members to have gotten their act together.  Of course they haven’t.  Her plan to put her foot down doesn’t come without consequences.  Family dysfunction is what I most enjoyed about this book.   The romance with the bodyguard seemed too obvious.  A little too much profanity for my taste.

The begrudging leader of a dysfunctional family of con artists is released from prison and seeks revenge.

I really enjoyed how the family dynamics varied between the characters in this novel and how well-rounded the side characters were. For such an interesting premise, I wish there were more high stakes plot points because I found the action to be a bit lacking. The romance was fine, but not particularly compelling.

As someone who prefers an exciting plot to characterization, I was hoping for a bit more. If you enjoy reading about family drama, you may enjoy this book.

Juvenile, All Build Up and No Pay Out

Finished it more out of obligation than enjoyment. Alludes to the big secret I'm keeping way too often for that secret to be no big deal in the end. Jumps to other characters to give info on what they are doing but doesn't develop them at all. Very disappointing. I was hoping for something like an adult version of Heist Society and this was not that.
