I loved how they all connected. I loved the meaning in each story. I loved the love. It was so powerful that I was crying over wanting the love that was shown and talked about. I wish I got to know the characters more because i got attached to each one.

Thank you to Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany D. Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk and Nicola Yoon for letting me get lost in this collection of interconnected stories of young love.

Blackout takes place during a literal blackout caused by a heatwave in New York City and follows a group of young adults as they examine relationships, crushes, long time loves and new interests on this hot evening. Many of the characters are familiar with others and are all connected by a block party taking place in Bed Stuy. The authors have written diverse characters who are interesting and still inexperienced and let them grow with their plots.

I originally bought this book for myself and for a fellow bookstagrammer because of my love of the writing of Angie Thomas. Nic Stone wrote my favourite story called Mask Off and I hope to look into this author’s other work as well as that of the co-authors.

This YA romance collection falls outside of my normal genre but it found me at the perfect time. I have hopes of picking up Whiteout soon.

The biggest drawback is the amount of time you spend with each character. I wish there was more of several characters and really dig in how they know others well enough to show up at this party. There are plentiful good poignant moments for most of the characters.

End of year book went into this year
Tough read as in wasnt very much into it, shame because like some of the authors
Have many cute points/moments/sections but overall was like chewing bricks to get self to read and considered DNF a lot
Maybe just not in mood for stories
Cute overall though

This was so good, I didn’t expect to like it this much! One of my favorite anthologies! Every story was strong on its own, and I loved spotting the connections between them. I'm definitely gonna have to look into a lot of these authors' backlists because they were all so phenomenal and some were completely new-to-me!

I am normally not a big fan of short story collections, but this one worked better for me because all of the stories are taking place during the same event and there are a lot of connections between the characters in each story. There was also one story that we would keep coming back to. I wished there were more characters that weren't high school students dealing with teenage romances, but then I remembered this is YA and that's the intended audience. There was only one story I didn't really care for, but otherwise I thought the writing was solid. I listened to this on audiobook and the narrators also did a great job, though I preferred some over others.
