To Catch a Storm by Mindy Mejia

I just really didn’t mesh with the characters and this isn’t keeping my interest. There are too many books out there to stick with one I’m not enjoying. That said, even though it’s not for me, it may be up your alley if you like psychics and mystery thrillers.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was an interesting one. There were a couple of surprising twists. I don't think it would have been as interesting if there wasn't a psychic involved.

Unique pairing to solve a thriller, a physicist and a psychic. It somehow works and I loved the cold winter Iowa setting. Looking forward to seeing how this pair develops in the upcoming sequel(s?)!!

Yes! This was a smart and sharp thriller that I couldn't and wouldn't set down. Fortunately I had both the audiobook and print in my possession, so I didn't really have to set it down. I was a little worried the "science-y" stuff would bog it down, BUT IT DID NOT! A scientist and a psychic team up to solve a mystery and it could have been really, really weird, BUT IT WAS NOT. It was great. Read this.

Mejia is one of my go-to mystery/thriller authors and TO CATCH A STORM might be my favorite of hers so far. The main characters aren't super unique, but they are interesting. I found them likable, sympathetic, and dynamic enough to be believable (although better character development would have improved the novel for sure). Eve, Jonah, Earl, and Max make an appealing team, each using different skills and talents to solve the mystery. I especially like the fact that Earl is a sharp, helpful contributor despite the impairments caused by his stroke. The plot of TO CATCH A STORM is exciting, with plenty of suspense, tension, and action to keep things moving right along. Most of the plot twists caught me by surprise. I probably should have seen the Big Reveal coming, but I didn't. While the book wraps up in a satisfying way, enough questions are left to whet the reader's appetite for the next installment in the series. I, for one, will absolutely be reading on. I'm interested to see how the characters' relationships develop and what will happen next in their ongoing stories, both individually and collectively.

This was a good story which kept me turning the pages throughout the night. Great mystery, writing and plotting will recommend to all my friends who love this genre.
