Sprecherin: Elena Wilms
Ich gebe der Sprecherin 5 Sterne.

With every book, I am amazed that the storyline is able to keep progressing without getting boring or obnoxious yet. Normally I am very tired of a serious by this point, if not earlier. However, this is simply not the case with the Chicagoland Vampires series! Chloe Neill does a wonderful job telling the story of Merit, Ethan, and the rest of the characters in this series.
In this installment, Ethan finally sees Lacey for who she truly is. I was very pleased that he took Merit's side instead of simply reacting to the intel. And finally, Merit has no more secrets from Ethan. I love the balance in the book between action and relationships. While I do feel that the series could focus less on Merit and Ethan's relationship, it is not overwhelming the way that other series can be.
I think my favorite character currently is Jeff. He always has Merit's back, he never judges, he's loyal to his friends and family, he's got a great sense of humor, and he's humble but knows he is awesome. Where is a real man like that? My favorite part of this book was definitely finding out what animal Jeff changes into. Without a doubt.
This book was a good read. Parts were slow and others were quick. I felt myself getting a little bored while reading, which for me means that I need to change up series for a little while. So even though I can't wait for book 8, I'm going to switch series now. This book still gets 4/5 stars for me, only losing a little because parts were slow and I felt that the Merit and Ethan relationship could have been focused on less. Hopefully there will be more action in the next one!

As soon as it was proposed that Cadogen House break with the GP, I got excited for this story and it didn't let me down. As I like all the political machinations and intrigue in the series, I was drawn to this book from the beginning. I expected shenanigans from Darius, Lacey and the other cronies but they still were able to surprise me. And, there is a major betrayal that I should have seen coming but...I didn't.
The added mystery related to the rogue vampires made things even more interesting and though I'd picked the right suspect, the motivation eluded me until the end.
The requisite Ethan/Merit drama showed up once again but at least it played out differently for a change. Here's hoping we've seen the last of this tiresome device.
I really enjoyed this story and liked how everything played out. It was exciting and gnarly at the same time. This may be one of my most favorite stories to date.

House Rules is centered around Cadogan House seceding from the GP, the ruling faction of vampires. There's a bit of drama, since the GP's mindset is if you're not with them, you're against them. The GP try to kick the vamps out of their residential house and get the fairies to side with them. With a bit of help, Merit wounds up finding the leverage the GP is using against them and saves the day, of course. There's a bit of side drama that comes after Merit is officially initiated into the Red Guard with Jonah as her partner. Lacey, Ethan's former GF, is in town to try to aid with the GP, since she's friends with Darius, the GP's leader. Since she still wants Ethan, she stirs the pot and tells Ethan Merit is cheating on him. Merit has to come clean about the Red Guard, which Ethan sees as an act of betrayal. They eventually make up in the end. Also, Noah, the sort of leader of the Rogues, asks for Ethan and Merit's help when a few rogue vampires disappear. They're found dead, followed by two vampires from Navarre House whose bodies are actually in the house. It turns out to be and all is well that ends well.
Spoiler
a vampire sired by one of Celina's vamps, who was turned against his will and is acting in revenge. Ethan had hired him to provide outside security after the fairies turned against Cadogan House. He's discovered in the end
I loved this book as much as I have loved this series. I also think that Jonah will not give up on Merit. I love Ethan and think they are perfect for each other.
it took me a little bit to get into this book in the beginning but it really went out with a bang (
