I really enjoyed the first book. But for whatever reason, I cannot get into this one. I got to 57% & barely knew what was going on. Maybe I’ll try again in the future.

This was a super good book; it’s not a book to read with your brain on 0% before you go to sleep, though… I read the first half in the evening before bed, and let’s just say I was very confused every time I picked the book back up. The last half I read during the day in one sitting, and let me tell you, I was fully sucked into this world. I was not reading the book; I was watching a movie in my brain. Immaculate!! But the ending… 🫢 I really hope Darien isn’t going to do anything stupid. 🤞🤞

the way these two show up for each other time after time is so sweet 🖤 the mental health rep is represented respectfully, the world building is addicting, and the pining was executed perfectly! the first 60% was slower paced imo, but the relationships and drama kept my interest locked in. last 40% of this was WILD. the majority of this read felt like a movie unfolding in my mind, especially during the carnival chapter, i felt like I was running for MY life 😅🤣 i’m excited to continue this series!
There continues to be so much I like about the series to continue but some major flaws keep this from being higher rated.
Bringing more lore into the world (veil, the void, elemental magics) really helps to flesh things out better.
Darien and the rest of Devil found family continue to be highlights.
Love the side story of Blue and wish we had more chapters with her and Dom.
However, the biggest issue here is by far pacing. The book is far too long and major stretches where little of consequence happens. I struggled especially prior to 50% with pace and lack of significant progress (also felt like there was lot of spice that just seemed to be happening in first half without good plot rationale for it). I also continue to feel that while the last 20% of book often contains big reveals that both books 1 and 2 so far have far too much reserved for the end. When too many new details come during such a fast paced final act it can be confusing as it lacks enough setup.
Overall enjoying series and lies and legends is up next!
