5⭐️’s.. This was a SOLID first book to the series!! Great character development, loved the Viking vibes, banter was top notch, witty and funny at times but also had depth. Going to dive into the second book.

I loved the road-trip style setting, which kept the story moving, and the group dynamics, especially Silla’s interactions with the Bloodaxe Crew, were a highlight. The magic system and Norse-inspired world felt underdeveloped, and the romance with Wolf progressed a bit too quickly, although I enjoyed the early tension with Axe Eyes. Silla and Rey felt a little too similar to characters from Shadow and Bone, and with predictable twists and a large cast that was sometimes confusing in audio, I am hoping the next book develops the magic, world, and characters into something more distinct.
