I haven't read My Year of Rest and Relaxation, but this book is what I imagine the millennial version of that would be.

It was so hard to empathize with the main character because she was a well-off WASP who only wanted to complain about everything all day. She had a house provided by her parents and everything she could ever need and still, all she did was bitch about how horrible her parents were for wanting to sell her childhood home. It was just hard to feel bad for her when nothing was really wrong in her life. Her husband left their loveless marriage and you would have thought she had been shot with the way she acted.

The entirety of this 300-page book consisted of Darcy walking around her wealthy Massachusetts town feeling bad for herself and judging other people.

The redeeming factor was the community board messages. They added humor and fun to an otherwise glum reading experience.

This book really wasn’t for me; a 29 year old incapable of handling her privileged life is not my idea of a good book. Add to it I didn’t really like her, so I gave up at 30%

I struggled through this one. I didn’t really like the narrator. I did finish it because I wanted to know how it ended, so I’ll give it that, but overall I found it flippant and forced. Very obviously making a point, even though I got to the end and didn’t feel like there was much of a point in reading it

This was okay. The first 30% was a lot of the main character whining, and I almost gave up. But it did get better - and I liked where the last 30% of the book ended. I wish the plot was tightened.
