This book would be 3.5 stars for me, so nearly a 4 star book. I really enjoyed reading it, but for me it wasn't as good as Unearthly. This doesn't put me off reading Boundless though. I can't wait to see how the story progresses. You can read my full review here
Love that this book begins a day or two after Unearthly ends - jumping right back into the action is just my cup of tea!
I'm beginning to think that the only reason I'm reading this trilogy is that it keeps me company on my ridiculously long commute to and from work everyday. I know that I would never spend money on these books, nor would I waste what little precious free time I have on actually reading them.
Having said that, I do kind of like Clara, though I can't say that I agree with her choices, her decisions. And let's be completely frank here folks, what teenage girl would have either the maturity or presence of mind to say to the love of her life that she's breaking up with him for his own good??!!
Really??!! I like Tucker, I don't much care for Christian, but I am going to finish the trilogy in the hopes that Clara wakes up and smells the coffee, i.e. comes to her senses.

Hmm...feels like a classic case of Middle Child Syndrome, or I suppose Middle Book Syndrome. Doesn't have the novelty and need for world-building that the first book had; doesn't have the climax that the third book needs. Instead, while some important things happen throughout the book, a lot of it ends up feeling like filler. (On the other hand, I did read the first three hundred pages instead of going to bed when I had to be up early, so clearly it kept me pretty entertained.)
I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop, I think; there was a lot of buildup to a conflict that didn't really happen (or rather, we had a bit of a premature climax with unfulfilled promise of a bigger one...), and although there's definite setup for Major Problems with Clara's brother, it's not yet clear what form those problems will take. (And what about Angela?)
As a side note, it's interesting to note the disparaging Twilight references—self-aware but maybe not quite self-aware enough, since, uh, both Clara and Christian seem to have slight creeper tendencies.
Ah well. If I can get my hands on book 3, I'm definitely curious enough to read it, so...I suppose this one has done its job.

... so this book picked up pretty much right after the last one ended. On page 3, it did have a great little recap of the first book (Clara pictures herself on a couch telling her story thus far to a shrink ... it was an effective way to refresh if it had been a while, while not annoying those coming into it straight from book 1, as I did).
Immediately, I was struck by the humor again ... this is one of those books where I really like to check out the quotes (there in the right column). I generally save my quotes for a little more profound bits of wisdom, but (as I did in Immortal Beloved) just wanted to keep some of my favorites here. Of course her reflection on love triangles, and ...
"Let's get the heck out of here"
I love that he says heck. I've totally had enough of hell.
(Christian's truck burned up. Tucker's truck burned up.) "That was not a good day to be a truck."
Mom calls it empathy, says that's it a rare gift among angel-bloods. Rare gift, ha. I wonder if there's a return policy.
I'm having an argument with myself. And I'm losing.
Freakus Interruptus
Had to laugh at a couple of the contemporary literature references (Harry Potter/Dumbledore and Twilight ... very Edward Cullen of her as she watches Tucker sleep).
I'm not sure why, but the book felt a little "middle book" to me. I just didn't feel like there was as much action, although as I reflect upon it, logically I can see that there was quite a bit happening. Quite a few questions answered, although still a lot unknown going into book 3 ... which I unfortunately do NOT have ready and waiting. Waiting for my library hold, and I'm a ways down that list.
