Ahhhhhhhhhh. Clara, Clara, Clara. I want to slap you but hug you at the same time.
Man does she have a way with words. For me this book was so sad. It broke my heart because I connected with it. I remember. It made me smile but boy did it make me cry and cry and cry.
I listened to this on audiobook and think the narrator did a splendid job!
The plotline of Unearthly is quintessential YA fantasy/PNR with the clueless but lovable female lead who finds her heart being torn into two pieces named Tucker and Christian.
The world-building was great and the secondary characters really complimented the storyline.
Clara was such an intriguing character and I cannot wait to see how it all ends.
I am a diehard Christian fan so I seriously hope he gets more coverage in the final book.

Just so-so for me. I'm not digging the main character and her "purpose" seems to just revolve around a boy, which seems silly. I don't think I'll read the next book.

Oh wow. I think the ending of this book definitely falls under the top five books that have made me bawl at the end of them. I literally sat there with tears in my eyes for minutes after finishing this book
I also have a lot of mixed feelings about everything in this book at the moment. Obviously I love Clara with Tucker and I think the two of them are absolutely adorable together, but I'm starting to also really ship her with Christian. I also think that considering everything - especially all of the angelic issues, and her powers and whatnot - Christians seems like the reasonable and safe choice. But then again, love is not meant to be safe, is it?
To be honest though, love-triangles aside, I was way too focused on Maggie reaching her 120th year than any romance issues that might have been going on. And while I have read a lot of books where people die - even very important or main character - I feel like Maggie's death just hit me harder because we knew that it was going to happen quite early on and it felt like you were mourning her death throughout most of the book, and the sadness just happened to climax when she actually passed away. I also just could not, for the life of me, believe that she was actually going to die.
What I also just did not understand was why was Jeffrey's purpose to set that fire and save Tucker? What possible good was supposed to come out of that? I mean, if Jeffrey never had to start that fire, then Tucker would never have needed saving, right?
I am incredibly interested to see what is going to happen in the third and final book, especially in regards to Clara's relationship with both Christian and Tucker. I also really hope we get to see her going to Stanford, because I absolutely love her relationship with Angela. What I'm also really hoping for is for Clara to be able to see her mom again, or that she'll be able to travel to heaven sometime. But maybe that's just stretching it. I'm curious to see what will happen to Samjeeza and whether Clara might have to work together with him on something.
I guess we'll see!

Review to come. Correction: my rant about how fantasical this series is turning out to be is to come.
I’m not sure why I get nervous before reading a Cynthia Hand book. I was stupidly apprehensive about committing to Hallowed because it’s 400 pages, even though I was out of my mind excited. Y’all need to put me in a dunce cap for not reading Hallowed as soon as it entered my mailbox.

Funny and sad, romantic and realistic... It has everything.
I have liked Tucker since the very beginning, but I know he is never meant to be with Clara. Just like in Vampire Academy, Rose is never meant to be with Adrian. I am happy for Clara and Christian and finally! Christian shows some sense and treats Clara right.
I have loved Cynthia Hand's writing since the first book. To be straight, I am quite a cynical person (although my mum will disagree on the 'quite' part). But Cynthia has this way of writing all the cheesy plot into not cheesy. Even with the classic love triangle. At first, I am like, seriously? Another one? But she is one of the two authors which created a situation in which I cannot just say "he is a better guy for the girl". The other book is Jeri Smith Ready's Shade series.
Because in thhis book, there is no good or bad guy - Christian and Tucker are both good, it's just that who is better suited for Clara. There are no hard-and-fast rule when it comes to love, you have to find the guy which is right for YOU. And Cynthia Hand delivers that message - one which not many authors can succeed.
And like it's not enough, she can write Clara's mother's impending death in such a touching, agonizing and also glorifying way. If you get me. It's sad, but she doesn't just dwell on the sadness, she shows the happy times her mother didn't tell her before, which makes it all the more sadder. I'm glad Clara's mother has her love back, if only for a little while in the end.
So I say bravo to another job well done! Cannot wait to read the last one (tears). Tucker, I hope you find the right one for you (Hey! may be it's Angela. Who knows?)And Clara and Christian, hope you have a lovely life flying around in the sky!

Another great book by Cynthia Hand. This book is the perfect continution from Unearthly.
I really cried in the end of the story, when Clara's mum died. But I am happy for her, such bittersweet feeling it must be, for you to have your true love by your side, but knowing that you will be leaving all these behind. I think it has a perfect ending near the back. Clara definitely needs some closure from her mum's death for the battles that is coming up front. I respect Clara for the empathy she showed for Samjeeza. I would've done the exact same thing.
Tucker doesn't get the girl, no surprise there. But I think Cynthia Hand does a great job with it, nothing cheesy like "I'm sorry this is not working" crap they always pull. I guess I will be happy if Tucker find someone else, but I just cannot feel a little quesy when I picture the nice gentleman Tucker with girls like Allison Lowell. Yuck! But well, ok, people! I know Tucker deserves to be happy!
I swoon at the line "this is where I kiss you". It is so genius, romantic and original. That is one of the things I love about Cynthia Hand's writing. She is original, funny, and does not go all crappy even when she writes about scenes that are supposed to be crappy. She just has her way of making it special.
So, note to author: Pls don't mess this series up like so many series I have read before. And may I just say, you did a fabulous job with Unearthly and Hallowed.
P.S., does anyone notice the line where Christian told Tucker that summer is something that is going to end? It reminds me of Taylor Swift's 'Tim McGraw'. And when Christian says he has to let go of Kay to be a better triplare and all, I was thinking, hey! This sounds exactly right with Chris Mann's 'Beautiful Life'. Love that song by the way. It is unbelievable how this book has reminded me of so many songs. If they make this book into a movie, I think I can contribute a whole list of songs.

I loved this book. It really changes your mind about angels. It teaches those who read it about true love and how to find it. <3 it! ❤
