I haven't finished a book in a day for such a long time

My 8 year old daughter bought this book and since I enjoy having discussions with her I also read it. I was very hesitate at first but actually enjoyed the story and I think it's a perfect fit for her.

Seriously, I highly recommend that every Descendants fan at least read this book (the first one) out of all of them in the series. It will truly make you look at the characters differently. We got to take a look at what it was like to live in a strange world when you're punished for your parents wrongdoings and it's scary.

I need the next book good thing I can run up to the store and get it soon

A prequel to the Disney channel's Descendants movie series, we get to find out some more back story behind Evie, Mal, Carlos, Ben and Jay

Intriguing to start, but after almost a year of bedtime reading, a chapter of this sent her straight to sleep

Oh no... this was pretty bad, I'm sorry! I thought it would be fun to read about the children of exiled Disney villains, but it was just poorly thought out, sadly 2-dimensional, and honestly half-assed.

We have Mal (daughter of Maleficent), Evie (daughter of the Evil Queen from Snow White.. ok), Jay (Jafar's son........-_-)and Carlos (son of Cruella De Ville because of course it needs to be stupid). They all want their parents to pay attention to them and love them, so they all do some kind of rebellious/evil things to try to win over their love. The evil things are pathetically tame, like stealing junk, being late for school, not putting on as much makeup as your mother wants, and building machines that work like magic. But magic is banned. So it makes sense that the machine works logically. It's not poor writing. Not at all. Oh and also they half-heartedly hate each other for dumb reasons. Will they win their parents' attention and allow friendships to blossom???

Ok so I get that not all middle grade books have age crossover appeal. Yeah, not all books for middle school kids need to have complex characters or unobvious plots. But all of them deserve the author to pay attention to them and to have some sort of dignity when it comes to crafting at least one aspect of the book, but alas. It's quite clear that this was a sponsored book with a deadline and probably a lot of creative control on Disney's side. Sorry it didn't turn out to be something worth reading..

I didn't mind the story, I just felt like it relied too much on the movie.
