Instant classic, reinvented, just awesome storytelling with twists and a blood bath of a finish filled with memorable panels and quotes. A Batman that you can never forget

Meh.
Sure I like it.
I was just expecting more.
Don't get me wrong though, they did give you more... just not the more I was expecting.
I didn't like how the Joker was portayed here.
I loved him in Death of the Family.
I FELT HIM AS A MORE GROUNDED VILLAIN.
The Joker here felt like a cartoon.
I just didn't feel it.

Full review possibly to follow.

Holy fuck this was a strong and horrifying culmination of events Scott Snyder has been building up to for years. Note that I've put it on my Horror bookshelf rather than Superheroes. Although it starts off with one of my favourite recurring storylines: Batman having to take down the Justice League! Once the mind-altering villain behind that Batman vs. JLA kickoff is revealed, Gotham is brought to a lower level of mayhem and sorrow than even Bane or Crane could ever manage.

I'm about to read the tie-in deluxe hardcover Joker: Endgame, and hoping it won't screw with my reading order or just amount to several repeats, but I just never want to stop reading Scott Snyder Batman books!

I'm really enjoying Scott Snyder's run on Batman. It's been, dare I say it, batshit insane.

The plot is overly recondite and unnecessarily difficult to follow. Occasionally the dialogue makes no sense at all. That being said, this is an excellent comic. Greg Capullo's pencils are immeasurably better than anything DC has published for years. I hate the Joker and would frankly be happy if the character were unofficially retired altogether. And still, in spite of myself, I loved this book. It was inexplicably compelling. It could have been a Bat-sterpiece for the ages, but instead it's just a damn good Batman story.

Endgame was written just for me. what a great story!
Joker is back, but he should be dead. He infects Gotham with a new strain of his virus, stronger and longer.
Something is different this time, Joker heals himself, but how? Is he the Pale One, ancient and immortal? Or is it a joke?
The idea is fantastic a question asked of Batman as well. Is he immortal or an idea built from fear/desire for justice.
Loved this one! Snyder & Capullo are a great team with a great lol into Batman

A lot of the more popular reviews are pretty negative, meaning the consensus is likely more negative than its average rating likely indicates. First of all, Batman hasn't done anything "new" except the Court of Owls in a couple decades at least. The best You can hope for is a twist on it, an amping of stakes, and great characterization. That's all here. Joker is great, Batman is great and shows rare vulnerability in the face of hopelessness. Alfred and, whoever, I haven't followed the other series', have some great moments, the plan at the end was awesome, and Snyder seems to have a knack for nailing the Joker-Bats mind-games. Oh yeah, and the art is so beautiful. Capullo is one of the best comic artists ever in my opinion.

There are problems, however. Again, little is new here. It doesn't piss me off, cuz I'd avoid Batman if that annoyed me. But I don't like it either. The ending panels are pretty dumb, and the whole spine thing is stupid.

But seriously, if you want original concepts, how do you read Batman?
