Never screw over your sister
Gracie’s family walk all over her and have her do everything and she doesn’t say a thing. Hudson is a dirty mouth, tattooed, bad boy that Gracie asks to help her get revenge on her sister for ruining her great grandmother’s antique wedding dress and tired of her always taking advantage of her. Gracie only seems to get support from her cousin, Dakota, and Granny Murray. Gracie enlisting Hudson to help her is most definitely out of her comfort zone and he’s definitely a loose cannon. I loved loved loved Granny Murray and her crazy habits. Granny Murray was wild in this book and very supportive. I was so happy when Gracie finally stood up for herself and got to finally be happy with Pugnog, her dog. Hudson helped Gracie come into her own and she helped him rediscover his love for Christmas. She helped melt the ice around his heart and I love that. I really want to see Dakota get her happy ending now.

I'm so confused by my rating, but it just feels wrong to pan a book that drew me in and kept me engaged. At first I wanted not to like it, but by the end I was singing a different tune.
I felt every heartbreak and every incidence of maltreatment, every direct and indirect insult, directed at Gracie, especially the ones from her family. Talk about toxic and dysfunctional. Hudson, who is cast as a bad boy with a soft center doesn't really come across that way. For 95% he was an ass. He used Gracie as much, perhaps more, than her family did. At least the family was oblivious to their maltreatment, despite Granny Murray's admonishments. I realized about half way through that I was invested, deeply, in Gracie's story. Perhaps because I saw so much of myself in her.
What kept me from giving this a five-star rating was Hudson's "redemption arc". There was no build up, no thawing of his cold heart slowly. It was like *BAM* his cold heart melted and he was suddenly in love with her and doing anything he could to win her back. It felt rushed. I would have liked to see the author write another 50-100 pages and take the time needed to actually give Hudson a proper redemption arc.
My favorite character was Granny Murray. What a hoot! She was the comedy that kept the book from becoming too serious.
The spice was medium to high, albeit a lot more graphic than I've been reading lately. Hudson wins for best smut talker. After the holidays I plan on checking out another Alina Jacobs book before deciding to add her to my regular TBR.

I’m not even sure how to fully articulate how much I disliked this book. The main character has such an abusive family and she just takes it, always. Then the love interest is just as abusive as the family. He is supposed to be portrayed as helping her stand up to her family but, honestly, he just adds another abusive ass to her life. Also, she needs a man to stand up for her in order to feel confident in defending herself? A man who is just as terrible to her? Even when this man is supposed to apologize for the absolutely awful betrayal he commits in the third act conflict it’s half assed at best (he tells her she’s just as bad as him??). Of course she just forgives him like it’s nothing after another person “helps her fix” the aftermath for his choices, because in reality she didn’t grow a backbone at all. Side note but in business settings she suddenly has all the confidence in the world, like an over abundance of it, how does that make sense? This isn’t even touching on how unrealistic the conversations and actions are, because there is no logic in how people act (specifically the mc’s family). The smut was certainly not good enough for me to forget the rest. I came to just completely lose respect for the main character and hate the love interest by the end. I could probably say a lot more but long story short I thought it was straight up bad.
This book was so good, I absolutely loved Granny Murray, omg she was a hoot. I was constantly laughing at the train wreck of a family this way, and let's not mention the description of the pug!. Hudson and Gracie had such good chemistry and were really good together. This book is a definite must read, it is hilarious.
