Every December, I try to read at least one Christmas book.
This sounded like an interesting book and went for it.
I should have stopped reading the moment I was confused on what the heck was going on after Hudson is introduced. He’s supposed to be a complete stranger, yet he’s been digging deep in to Gracie’s family for months, and he’s a hacker con-artist, manipulating their “relationship”?
The whole revenge plot storyline would have worked great… if Grace wasn’t such a complete doormat. I don’t care if she was written to be that way, it got annoying fast. Not to mention, her family blaming her for literally everything, even if she wasn’t the one at fault at all.
I could see the third-act breakup coming since the beginning of the book, and it was catastrophic. A lot of chaos for what I feel is little reward.
And one last thing - the smut in this is cringy 90% of the time. The fmc who is supposed to be naive and innocent has one of the dirtiest mouths I’ve ever read? Yeah, no.
Christmas book, yes.
But more of a disappointing read than a good holiday romance.
Oh and all the sexual Christmas puns can go. Having it in the blurb is attention grabbing, but everywhere in the book is a bit much.

I really wanted to like this. I kept seeing it everywhere. Who doesn’t love a bad boy coming home to shake up Christmas and make your family uncomfortable. This book has a lot of potential but it fell short everywhere. The FMC was a huge doormat, the fake boyfriend was a huge asshole to the point he needed kicked in the balls, and the family was so toxic it was painful. It just all came together in a really cringey way. I kept reading thinking it would get better but it never did. There’s really no resolution, there’s no groveling, the family didn’t change and continued to be toxic and horrible. The FMC continued being a doormat and thinking it was ok to be treated like that. The only characters that were ok in the book were the cousin and Grandma Murray.

just…no
This book was actually awful. Literally ZERO of the characters had any redeeming qualities. I couldn’t tell if it was supposed to be this bad (to maybe make fun of the genre…?) or this is just a really bad book. The comedy hid all the absolute garbage that was the plot and characters.
I don’t even have the energy to break it down more. I almost gave up reading it multiple times. Every single character is awful and no one deserves any kind of happy ending here. The two main characters were fairly irredeemable in my opinion. Though each for different reasons. If you like really dumb characters framed around an annoying over the top obsession with Christmas, then here ya go. But don’t say I didn’t want you about the absolute dumpster fire that is this book.

This book has so much going on. Gracie had me wanting to Gibbs smack her a bazillion times before the end of the book. She is smart and talented yet she allows her family to treat her like a second class citizen. Hudson deserved a few slaps upside the head as well. Thank goodness for Dakota as she kept me from dumping both Hudson and Gracie. That being said, there are some truly funny moments that had me giggling out loud and enjoying the read.
I DNF'd before even reading chapter 1 - the prologue was enough for me to know this book is not for me.
Gracie is a doormat. I mean, I get that this is kind of the point to her character, but there is a difference between being a people pleaser, and being a doormat who just lets people walk all over you with a smile.
If you caught your sister sleeping with your fiancé the night before your wedding, you would not react the way Gracie does. When they then announce they are in fact in love, despite the fact that not two minutes prior to this, the fiancé said he still intended to get married to Gracie, you would not just let it go. Her family are awful to her yet she still tries to keep them happy. Gracie tries to keep the peace because she doesn't want her "big secret" to be revealed - no secret is worth being treated like that by your own family. Having read some other reviews and searched for spoilers, I can honestly say that the big "secret" is really not something that would warrant being treated like this by your family.

I think this is the first time I've been so incredibly frustrated with every single character in a book... well except for Grandma Murray, but even then, she was a lot. Yet, a part of me still enjoyed this enough to read the whole thing. How? No idea.
Gracie had no backbone.
Hudson was too much of a dick.
I wanted to punch everyone of Gracie's family members in the face. Even Dakota at one point.
OH and don't even get me started on the sex conversations with her family. No. Gross.
But, still I wanted to finish it and see what happened. Maybe because I wanted to see Gracie finally throw shit back into her family's face. I genuinely don't know.
