I’m still interested in the story line, but there’s kind of a lot going on now that’s a lil hard to follow. I love the Satellite Sisters and Maria and Shelly. And I looooove the way the art makes me feel.

Hear my deep dive podcast about it at https://www.storiedarcs.com/grass-kings/

I liked it a lot, but it was a somewhat abrupt shift in genre. Maybe I was misreading the first book, but it felt like a libertarian stand-off with the system and pivoted into an internal murder mystery in the second volume. As I said, I enjoyed it but it did rattle my expectations. The art is stunning, the characters are good, and the story is still compelling even if it was a drift from the arc of the first volume.

Re-read Notes:
This is still a downturn in the series for me. I knew it was coming on a re-read and I was ready for it, but the genre changes, the dialogue gets much denser, and none of the characters come off that likeable. After this one, you're ready to see the whole thing burn down except you don't want that lousy sheriff from Cargill to get a win.

Meh. Moving slowly and making very little sense.

It's great, I really like this series and Matt Kindt is great. Tyler and Hilary Jenkins are phenomenal as the art team and really make this series standout, A+ read if you like small-town mystery/drama.
