4. Moja kultura to podstawowa kultura.

ENGLISH
There is a good book somewhere here, but unfortunately it is hidden behind many, many minuses.
1. This book tries to be an anime (visually / writing style)
Imitating any visual medium in a book format is very hard and here it is very mediocre.
Fighting scenes are very poorly written. I would get lost in what is even happening and where anyone is in the scene. Towards the end of the book I would start just gazing over the fighting scenes paragraphs and skipping them because it didn’t make any sense to me.
Episodic format of this book makes it so that the plot isn’t advancing. This whole book is just “let’s get the band together” and a few, truly not connected, adventures how they got more people to join.
1.2 This book tries to be an anime (characters)
Edge lord who always has to remind us about that.
In general repeating over and over again what the heroes are but never showing (I’d love to see Yumeko ACTUALLY pranking someone)
2. Inserting Japanese words.
I hate this USAmerican fashion of inserting foreign words in the dialogues. The characters are supposedly already speaking Japanese. What are they doing when the Japanese words is inserted? Start speaking a different language??
And of course I don’t mean “Kitsune” or “Oni”. Sure, that is okay But adding “sugoi” or “kuso” is just pathetic. It felt as if I returned to middle school.
3. Sexism
Of course the main character is stupid, optimistic girl with huge plot armour. Of course the men should fight and she can just guide them from the “side lines”. And of course she is in no danger for insulting a samurai because she is so cute and innocent.
4. My culture is the basis for all cultures.
A) As far as I know farmers in Japan were a fairly high case. They were just below samurais. And this book treats them as European feudal peasants.
B) It is kinda sticky that Yumeko, theoretically brought up as carta blanca by the monks, far away from any Japanese culture, is acting very, very much in a western manner. Just as if the western culture was the “natural” and “logical” one and the Japanese one is thought and made up.

i freaking love this book. such an epic adventure with great characters. the mc is perhaps one of my favorites and i’m rooting for them all. japanese folklore is so interesting and i am truly transported into another world.
This is Japanese mythology, side quests, and morals all wrapped into one bloody book and i LOVED it. A little slow for me to get into for some reason, but it took off and I can't wait to get into the rest of the series
If you're looking for something that reminds you of Inuyasha, this definitely hits the mark. Literally. Almost on the nose. You can see the parallels in the characters from Inuyasha throughout the entire story, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters (though similar) were well written and made you fall in love with them. Even Tatsumi, who barely talks at all.
If you're looking for romance, there isn't any. One pet peeve is that the main character, Yumeko, is extremely naive, and so much goes over her head to the point you're rolling your eyes. Granted, she did grow up in a temple, but not under a rock.
This does have amazing Japanese lore and guides you through it if you're unfamiliar. You get to read about different yokai, demons, secret ninja societies, demon hosts, evil mages, and impending war. It has everything and moves you through the story quickly, so there's not a dull moment. Dont bother even puttong it down! ❤️

[Audiobook] The narration of this definitely adds to the experience, so the rating is more generous that some readers may think warranted. It’s hard to ignore that several aspects of the story are not at all original, but there are several interesting characters and elements which made the time worth spending. Not sure if I will continue with the series (but no regrets.)
At first this title was a bit difficult for me to get into, I kept getting hung up on specific words or characters that are taken from Japanese folklore. But after a little googling, I was hooked on this title. The first few chapters focus on giving you a backdrop to the magical system and the differing forces at play. Due to the plot line and characters, I found myself thinking that it should be adapted into an anime series!
The Wicked Fox is inspired by Japanese folklore and this was another book, I just couldn’t put down. On the backdrop of a dragon that can grant any wish every thousand years for the one who holds the Scroll of a Thousand prayers, enter a girl who is half Kitsune, a fox that possess magical abilities and the ability to ward off evil. Growing up at a monastery and hidden from the world due to her unnatural abilities, Yumeko learns about the Scroll of a Thousand Prayers, when the monastery gets attacked by demons looking for the scroll. Upon the destruction of the monastery, she escapes with a part of the scroll and goes on a journey to another monastery to ensure the safety of the scroll from demonic influences.
Upon her escape, she meets Kage Tatsumi, a demon slayer, who assists her on her quest, but little does she know that Kage is tasked by the Shadow Clan to retrieve the scroll no matter the cost. Follow these characters and other unlikely characters (including a dishonored Samurai and a royal), in their quest to go to the monastery who knows the secret of the Scroll of a Thousand Papers and the location of all of the pieces of the scroll. From battles with demons, understanding honor, and learning about inner power, this title is a must read for those who enjoy fantasy.

3.4 🌟 will read the next book due to what happened at the end of this book. I kept shaking my head at Yumeko.
1/5stars
This was probably the most difficult book i've forced myself through in a LONG time. If you've been keeping up with my updates you know I wanted to DNF this literally 5% in but since Scribd isn't actually unlimited audiobooks anymore AND my library sucks I had nothing else to listen to for the past month.
This was bad. Straight up. BAD.
I'll say my one positive before I list all the negatives - this is very VERY manga-like. I totally see where people are coming from comparing it to reading a manga or watching an anime with very episodic arcs and meeting new characters and villains every few chapters. As well as gathering up a gang of unlikely "friends." This is the element that made it bearable for me cause I do enjoy a fun adventure anime every once in a while. Other than that - BAD.
Lets list the bad, shall we?
- Idk how to describe this book other than "weeaboo"-y. It might be fun that its manga/anime-esque but holy crap if you're a casual anime watcher or someone who cringes at weeaboos, you're gonna cringe your way through this whole dang book. Examples of the cringey as heck weeb-ness:
---> The characters randomly saying really stereotypical japanese words that everyone whose ever watch a single anime episode will know such as "sugoi" "nani" and "baka"
---> along those lines, adding "chan" "san" and "kun" RANDOMLY to names - there was no rhyme or reason to this. it seemed like when the author remembered to add them, she would, but not always.
---> the main character being the cute, innocent, blushing female who doesn't know how attractive she is and literally gets out of every situation by being cute and making every guy fall for her
---> mood sasuke uchiha-like main male character
- The writing was horrible. Sorry to Kagawa, I've actually wanted to read many of her books in the past and I hope some of them are better written than this but wow this was one of the worst written books I've read in a LONG time.
- why is every character in this book 16 to 18 years old? why is every character saving the world 16?? why are the best swordsmen in the world 18 years old???? why are we trusting a 16 year old girl with the entire universe???????
- If i have to read/hear a cringey "this is what I look like" description one more time in my life it'll be too soon - we gET IT YOU HAVE TWO FOX EARS ON TOP OF YOUR HEAD AND A "BUSHY TAIL" BEHIND YOU IF YOU SAY IT ONE MORE TIME I SWEAR TO GOD-
- Have you seen an anime? you know how this book is gonna end. no need to read it
- I disliked or was annoyed by every single character
- I was slamming my head against my shower every 20 minutes of this book
- People on the bus probably thought i was listening to homework or my mom yelling at me with how often I was rolling my eyes into the back of my head
- I'm almost 99% positive every single demon/bad guy we met in this book was a villain in either Naruto, Inuyasha or Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles juST SAYIN.
- It was just so cringey
- seriously
- if you're over the age of 13 you're gonna cringe so badly don't do that to yourself.
I'm glad it's over. Overall, maybe you'd enjoy it if you're an anime lover who doesn't find dubbed anime cringey?
That's all i got. Do not recommend. Don't do it to yourself yo.
