This book truly slapped! Honestly, ancient Roman poets have been surprising me with their talent. This is essentially a collection of so many interesting mini-stories and I liked basically all of them. Especially a fan of the transgender and gay stories, like Iphis and Ianthe's story. I DID end up trying to make a family tree for the collection and having way too much trouble with it (Jupiter's square was coated with red lines to represent sexual relationships, naturally). But if you just allow yourself to enjoy each individual story, this is a super enjoyable read.

can be a bit dense but I still enjoyed it

(Rolfe Humphries translation, with notes by Joseph Reed)

Not a book so much as an experience. The literary equivalent of hallucinogens. The experience of reading this opened up various channels of desire in my mind, made me crave more and more books, movies, music, art... A uniquely generative font of inspiration in western literary culture. There's nothing quite like it.

My edition features the somewhat dated but still enchanting Humphries translation with thorough and helpful notes from Joseph D. Reed on the text that can dispute or shed light on the lines at Humphries chooses to translate or transliterate them.
