This Fatal Kiss is an overall fun romance that successfully blends whimsical worldbuilding and folklore. The story follows Gisela, a water nymph haunting the river where she drowned, as she dreams of returning to the living world. The water nymphs create a wonderful found family/sisterhood dynamic that feels authentic and heartwarming. The three main characters have excellent chemistry, and I was really rooting for all of them to figure their shit out and just kiss already. While marketed as an M/M/F polyamorous romance, the relationship dynamics felt somewhat segmented. We see Gisela flirting with Aleksey, then Aleksey with Kazik, but rarely do we get scenes with all three together exploring their relationship. This made the poly aspect feel underdeveloped rather than fully integrated. The worldbuilding has inconsistencies that occasionally pulled me out of the story. References to radios and old-fashioned vehicles alongside very modern dialogue created confusion about the time period. The ending suggests a potential sequel, though I was expecting a standalone novel. I would have appreciated more time spent developing the characters' relationships, particularly at the conclusion where things felt rushed without meaningful conversation about their future together.
