The writing/characters made me have to put the book down and sigh every few pages. The overall concept made me pick it back up.
In all, I found this book a little slow to start and almost stopped reading in the beginning. The book is very YA and the characters felt immature. About 30-40% of the way in the story picked up. Loved the mythology/folk telling in this novel though.

Objectively, this book is a good. It’s super unique with how it incorporates Slavic folklore. The world feels whimsical, diverse, and cozy, even with the darker themes. Personally, I wish it was an adult book.Which is why I didn’t fully love it, but I still think it’s a beautiful story. I’m a little disappointed it’s not a standalone definitely felt as like it could’ve wrapped up in one. I think most who enjoy YA will like this book but if you are looking for a layer of maturity, skip this book.
