I was so excited to dive into this book, especially since it was chosen as Tropes & Trifles March Cozy + Coloring Book Club read! Alicia Jasinska did an incredible job blending themes of dark magic and queer romance, putting a fresh twist on The Little Mermaid in the Slavic folklore. Each character was developed so smoothly, and the plot lines came together seamlessly. It was full of so many whimsical and mysterious moments that I enjoyed. I'm really looking forward to discussing it more at the book club!

NOT A STANDALONE. Nothing I saw mentioned anything about there being a sequel. This does end extremely unresolved. Not that I’m disappointed cuz the whole time I was like “man it’s kinda wack they’re not expanding more on XYZ.” So when I got to the end and realized there will be a sequel, my anger was appeased.
Love these characters and the grace their queerness was handled with. Gisela didn’t feel like a pick-me, and her feelings were relatable to even 30-year old me. Kazik was so babie I wanna squeeze him. Can’t wait for Aleksy’s moment in the next book.
