Loved coming back!!

Loved coming back to this world!! Absolutely love that this series is a set of standalone books by different authors in the same world. Seeing so many beloved characters and meeting some others. Little weirded out by one of the characters and seeing that side of them….had me scratching my head the whole book! Awesome world building and character development. The angst was real, great ending. Can’t wait for the next book.

DID NOT FINISH: 37%

DNF at 37% - Boring! I didn’t care enough about the supernatural society, the FMC was bland and a Special Redhead and “spunky” and the MMC was growly and boring. Neither had a real personality outside of the Booktok tropes and I didn’t care about the McGuffin. By almost 40% in, I should know why I should care beyond the FMC calling the villain a “fascist” and a side character going “man the old king was better” like that actually should make us care???

Wow. This book was AMAZING! It was book 2 in the Immortal Vices and Virtues world and this series is shaping up to be a #1 series for me. I loved the glimpse of Rowe in book 1 and I love that book 2 picked up with her. She may be mostly human but she is badass and I love her sass! The book plot was fast paced but thorough and that ending!!! I did not see that coming! Definitely buying this is physical copy asap! Run, don’t walk on this whole series!! It will be well worth it!

Volker and Rowes story was very different but I love how seamless the transition from book 1 was. This whole world is different from what I normally read but in such a good way! I loved the pace and and then chemistry and cannot wait for the next book!

April 30th was the audiobook release of QUEEN ME by BookMojo author Amber Lynn Natusch and I used my Audible credit to scoop up a copy. Guys, I know I may be biased and all that but it was sooooooo good. This is one of the few ALN titles I hadn’t read yet and I’m glad I waited for the audiobook version. It’s got alternating POV narration read by Kit Swann and Tyler Darby. They totally knock it out of the park. The book is a complete standalone story within Kel Carpenter’s Immortal Vices & Virtues universe and I loved the world rules. I’ve read a few of the other books in the series and this has been my favorite so far.

Rowe is funny and charming. She’s not a perfect badass out of the gate but it makes her relatable. She’s a human living among supernaturals who quickly begins to realize that she doesn’t know everything about her own story. And in her world, that lack of info is a dangerous thing.

Enter Volker/The Midnight Wraith. He’s an overthrown fae king and an assassin. Their first few encounters are sooooooooo tense. This is not an instalove story. Volker is a walking red flag and she’s well aware of it from jump. Watching them work their way to one another was a lot of fun.

It’s got the fun banter of an enemies-to-lovers but they’re not really enemies, per se. It’s an uneasy alliance. The whole story has a dangerous, gritty edge to it and a twist ending that you likely wont see coming.

Overall, I loved the book. Up until now, my favorite ALN title was the Force of Nature series. Queen Me might have taken the top spot. This is an audiobook that I will definitely be re-listening to in the future.

Spice Level:

The romance pacing was seriously off - it’s not bad writing per se, just a lack of prioritization of the romance earlier on and then off-loading it at the end imo.

It's a disappointing read. As someone who's read the first instalment and loved it, I was expecting that this would be another fun read. However, this book ended up being tedious and, in the same way, VERY ANTICLIMACTIC. The first few pages were hopeful, but the rest, I just want to burn.

This was a delicious slow burn. I loved that the characters had time to build a relationship where we got to see them slowly share their feelings and trust. The MMC fell first, and the FMC was an independent badass. Only one real spicy scene.

Don't we all just love the morally grey men, or at least I know that I do, and he did not disappoint. Let me say BRAVO! to you Amber you did an amazing twist there at the end. You have me questioning his past actions and believing in a changed heart. I don't want to say more as to give anything away but well done my lady! This was a griping story for the very begin. You will be held captive from the very first chapter. The mystery and intrigue will have you in her grips and not let go until the last word. Loved every word of the story. The charters had depth and development and the plot progression was perfect. Can't wait to read more by this author.
